What Tenant Protection means

Every booking comes with two promises: we keep you safe, and we keep your experience simple. Your one-time tenant service fee pays for both. The amount is set per country and always shown before you pay.

Safe

We look out for you at every step.

  • Rent safe until move-in

Where available, you pay your first month's rent through our payment partner Stripe. Stripe holds it until 48 hours after your contract start date. If the apartment isn't as described, tell us within 24 hours and your rent stays on hold.

Look for the badge "First month's rent paid via Wunderflats" below the photo gallery. Stripe is certified to PCI Level 1, the highest industry standard. On other listings, rent and deposit go directly to your landlord, as set out in your rental agreement.

  • Verified landlords

We verify every landlord's identity with an official ID. On listings with the badge "First month's rent paid via Wunderflats", we also verify their bank account through Stripe.

We verify every landlord's identity before they can list. For protected payments, we also verify their bank account through Stripe. This helps you know who you're renting from. The apartment itself is covered in the next point. Concerns about a landlord? Tell our support team.

  • Know what you're booking

A photographer visits most apartments, so someone has usually been there before you book. Landlords share the inventory, house rules and utility costs up front.

You can spot these professional photos by the watermark in the top right corner. Listings managed by Wunderflats Plus go a step further: our own team verifies and manages these apartments. You can recognize them by the first line of the listing description.

  • Scam protection, 24/7

We monitor every booking around the clock for signs of fraud. If a booking turns out to be fraudulent, we refund what you paid on Wunderflats.

If something looks unusual, our team looks into it and contacts you. For anything you paid directly to your landlord, we help you pursue a refund. Report a case between booking and 24 hours after your contract start date. If anything feels off, contact us any time.

  • Fair cancellations

If your booking falls through for a reason we cover, we refund your service fee. A cancellation manager reviews each case personally.

Covered reasons include your landlord withdrawing, a confirmed difference from the listing or suspected fraud. Simple cases are usually decided within 1 working day, others within up to 5. Changing your mind after you confirm isn't covered. Details:

Simple

We take the paperwork and guesswork out of your move.

  • Book from anywhere

Book before you arrive, without a viewing or a local credit check. A recent bank statement or payslip is usually enough.

No apartment on Wunderflats requires a viewing, so you can book before you arrive. You also don't need a local credit check like Germany's SCHUFA: a recent bank statement or payslip is usually enough. Once your documents are checked, you can finalize your booking.

  • A contract you can read

Rental agreements come in English and the local language. You and your landlord sign online.

You can read every clause before you sign, with no printing or appointments needed. The contract is between you and your landlord, and Wunderflats isn't a party to it. Our support team can help you understand it, though we can't give legal advice.

  • Real people, for your whole stay

Our team helps you by email and phone from your first search until you move out, also if you disagree with your landlord.

For example about repairs or house rules. We help you communicate with your landlord and point you to the right next step. The final decision lies with you and your landlord. Add your phone number to your profile so we can reach you quickly.

  • Stay longer or leave earlier

Request an extension on Wunderflats, with no new service fee. If you need to leave earlier, we support you and your landlord in finding a decision.

If your landlord agrees to an extension, we update your booking. Fixed-term contracts usually run their full term, so leaving early depends on your landlord. We help where we can, like finding a new tenant. In rare cases, like a serious safety issue, you can leave early anyway.

  • Settle in faster

Our country-specific guides take you step by step through your first weeks: registering your address, health insurance, a bank account and more.

Our country-specific guidance shows you what to do and in what order. In Germany, that means your Anmeldung, health insurance, a bank account and your tax ID. If you get stuck, our team points you in the right direction. The appointments themselves are with the authorities.
